Winter in Summer?

6.30.2010

The weather's been a bit chilly lately. But that doesn't mean you can't wear summer dresses. Pair them up with some lightweight scarves and boots for a simple chic look. Or wear a skirt and casual tee with a long coat and boots to look stylish, comfy and warm.

Trader Joe's

6.29.2010

I wish there was one of these stores closer to me. So when we were driving past one, I had to stop by. The bite-size crispy crunchy oatmeal raisin cookies are a great snack (and very addicting I must say). So are the yogurt pretzels - chocolate pretzels are good, but have you ever had yogurt pretzels. I think I have a new standard for pretzels now. Lastly, my friend introduced me to the Armento white wine made from organically grown grapes and I am for organic products. All this for under $13? Wow I might have to drive the extra miles to have this all the time. Super good deal!

already started snacking on the cookies (also try it with milk)

San Diego Park

Next to the bay is a little grassy park. There's some interesting architecture and a peaceful view. Very relaxing and calming. Stop by and have a picnic when you have some time to spare.

CPK

6.26.2010

Stands for California Pizza Kitchen. My favorite things to eat here are the grilled vegetable salad and thin crust pizzas. If I was on a diet, I would eat the grilled vegetable salad all the time. - It's not your ordinary salad. - It has grilled asparagus, Japanese eggplant, zucchini, green onions and roasted corn over Romaine lettuce, fresh avocado, and sun-dried tomatoes in their homemade Dijon balsamic vinaigrette. You can even add chicken, salmon, or shrimp if you'd like. All their pizzas are pretty good and you can make any of them thin crust (I like the crispy, crunchy end). I also like getting some of the Jamaican jerk sauce (from the Jamaican jerk chicken pizza) on the side to drizzle on top of any pizza I order. It's a sweet and tangy sauce so try it first before putting it on your pizza. They've also just came out with a "small cravings" menu for appetizer size dishes.

Grilled Vegetable Salad - add chicken, salmon or shrimp and you've got a good meal!

Tsunami Fish Bowl

6.23.2010

In my previous post on "RA Sushi Happy Hour" I mentioned the tsunami fish bowl (good to share for 2 or more). I've included a picture of the cute little fish bowl it comes in. This drink is nicely blended where you don't really taste the alcohol as much as other drinks, which makes me like it even more. The pint size one is the blushing geisha. To share or not to share?

Whale watching in Dana Point

6.17.2010

Like whales and chilling on a boat? Then come out for blue whale season (May-October). When we went on our trip we didn't get to see any whales, but we did see dolphins swimming in the boat waves. I do recommend bringing a light jacket because it can get a little windy once you are further into the water. This is nice way to relax and enjoy a sunny day.

be sure to bring sunblock & your sunglasses & camera

Hamburger Habit

6.14.2010

Was driving in LA and got really hungry and stumbled across this place. We ordered the 1/4 lb. hamburger and patty melt. I liked the hamburger, especially the toasted buns and how their meats were cooked fresh-not frozen. The patty melt, however, was a little greasy for me. Their fries were crispy and perfectly salted. The place was kept clean, the service was friendly and they offered free refills. It was a nice random stop to get a quick bite to eat. Even police officers like to go there daily!

Pizookie Trio

6.12.2010

I'm in heaven...BJ's now offers a Pizookie Trio where you can select three cookie flavors topped with your choice of ice cream (vanilla or chocolate). They have six different cookies to choose from: chocolate chunk, white chocolate macadamia nut, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin walnut, cookies 'n cream, and triple chocolate made with Ghiradelli. I got the oatmeal raisin walnut (the raisin tasted weird in this mixture and also got stuck in my teeth, oatmeal with just walnut would have been perfect), white chocolate macadamia nut (always a winner), and cookies 'n cream (my new fav, if you like chocolate then you've got to try this). Please note: this sweet treat is definitely meant for sharing.

Low side braids

6.11.2010

A new simple hair-do for summer is the loose side braid. It's something fun and different to add to your look. Start by braiding your hair off to one side of your face (usually the side your bangs fall). Then pull your braids out by tugging the sides gently so it's a little loose. If some hair falls out, that's fine. It makes it look more effortless.

RA Sushi for Happy Hour

6.09.2010

Craving sushi on Sunday nights? Well then come out to RA Sushi for their happy hour. It's half off appetizers and sushi from 8PM-close. They also have great deals on drinks, like $1 hot sake! This is one of my favorite places to go for good sushi at a great price. More ideal for small groups of 6 or less; bigger parties may have to wait longer. If you like cream cheese, try the Crunchy Calamari Roll. Once you have sushi and drinks here, it might be your new Sunday night spot too.

this is the one in Tustin @the Irvine District

San Diego Bay

6.07.2010

For my birthday I decided to check out the San Diego Bay. I stayed at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel and it was beautiful there. The hotel is literally located right next to the bay. The scenery of the port and city made it seem like we were on vacation somewhere, especially at night. It's really close to the Gaslamp District (less than a quarter mile) so there are plenty of things to do. A must-do while you're at this hotel is going in their heated salt-water pool. The view is just incredible.
