Little Girl All Grown Up

3.31.2011

[dress/belt: from my Canada trip, heels: gifted from bakers]

I am more of a "spring/summer" girl because I can just put on a cute dress and be ready for the day. Layers can sometimes feel bulky, especially for my current on-the-go lifestyle. Therefore, I enjoy the simplicity of a sunny day and there was plenty during my SD trip.

The days are finally getting hotter here in SoCal and I love it. The only bad thing is that I don't like it when it gets so hot where there is literally sweat dripping down my face. Ewww. Not a pretty sight. So weather gods, can I please request temperatures in the 70s-80s? That would be perfect. Thank you.

**Don't worry it's not my undie showing. I am wearing black spandex shorts under my dress cause I couldn't find my nude ones. FYI: I always wear spandex shorts underneath skirts and dresses-for protection. No peek show from me. haha**

Belle of the Ball

Over the weekend, my friend [Judith] and I volunteered for a charity event called Belle of the Ball. This event was brought together by: Girls Inc., Orange Coast College, Orangewood Children's Foundation, and Women Helping Women. It was to help promote body image and self esteem to minors and foster kids. There were over 300 girls attending and we all had so much fun spending time with them.

The day was filled with lots of activities: business of beauty seminar (presentation on how the media portrays beauty versus reality), drum circle (they got to play with real drums ~ it was an awakening session), dressing the part (selecting a dress, heels, accessories), and becoming the Belle of the Ball (makeup done by Marinello School of Beauty). On top of that, they received many free goodies from donated sponsors and there was a raffle for more free gifts!

I even got the opportunity to style and dress some of the girls, which was a blast for me. At the end of the day, the most joy was getting to know the girls and seeing them transition from this experience. Their smiles said it all and I was so happy to be a part of it. :)

My New Way of Wearing a Scarf

3.29.2011

[shirt: f21, shorts/scarf: closet find, heels: bakers, watch: guess]

Last week I went with my sister to San Diego and just in time! Apparently it was raining back in OC and it didn't seem to hit San Diego. Lucky for us.

Above are some pics from my SD trip. I decided to spice up my outfit by wearing my shimmer scarf like suspenders. It also helped to keep me warm. Yes, it was sunny in San Diego but it was still a little cold. Plus it helped to cover my bra. ;)

Hope you're having a good week. It's almost the end of March. Eeks. 2011 is flying by fast!

MADE BY ME: Gathered Dress

3.28.2011

[dress: fashion store, tights: volcom, boots: bamboo, sunglasses: electric]

What I'm holding above is one of my creations from my manual labor of work haha It's a half-scale, cut-out, gathered pink dress. Stayed up late nights to get this done but in the end it was worth it. This little dress is perfect for mini me (or "fun kimberly" as they call it in those commercials haha).

I tend to find great joy in approaching something I've never known about before and learning about it to figure out how it works. Does that make sense or am I just rambling? I'm weird, I know. But we all can't be the same now or else life would be a bore. So embrace your individuality and know that we all have our own gifts and talents. Time to explore. :)

Food for Fridays: Guppy's

3.25.2011

So awhile back ago, the bf and I were on a mission to get some brick toast at 85 degrees Bakery and failed. Unfortunately, they ran out before we got there (geesh those things are so popular!) and walked on over to Guppy's (in the same plaza) to try theirs.

Menu:
1. Hawaiian fried rice $10.99 - we love it when the fried rice comes in a pineapple. It just makes it more festive and enjoyable to eat.
2. Popcorn chicken $5.50 - tastes how it should. Like every other boba place that makes popcorn chicken so it's a safe choice.
3. Butter coconut toast with vanilla ice cream $7.25 - not the same as 85 degrees but still a good alternative. The ice cream adds a good touch.

What's also very popular here is the shaved ice. If you are coming in a big group, order the large shaved ice. It's humongous with plenty to share. :)

Warning: there can be a long wait to be seated and the crowd here is usually "younger." Just FYI.

Spring 2011 RTW: Burberry Prorsum

3.24.2011

Girly mixed with edginess.

I really like how each outfit has a color that stands out. It just pops. I would definitely wear any of these outfits for a "night out on the town" with my girlfriends or bf. Totally perfect for this coming season. Now if only I can find it in a more "reasonable" price range...

Feeling Earthy

3.22.2011

[dress: closet find, jacket: f21, boots: gifted from bakers]

This outfit reminds me of earthy colors: brown, black, and green. If I added some flowers I would've felt like Mother Nature haha

Well it's another busy day for me today so I got to go chop chop. Hope you're having a good week so far.

Standing Still is Hard to Do

3.21.2011

[dress: fashion store, jacket: billabong (gifted from the bf), boots: bamboo, sunglasses: electric]

The weather is really weird right now, which is quite unusual for me. I'm so used to the sunny SoCal weather; yet, it still feels like winter. These pics were taken when we had a couple clear days in OC (Orange County) but I feel like I need to bundle up again.

On rainy days, I like to snuggle up in a warm blanket, drink hot cocoa (with a hint of cinnamon), and watch a movie (preferably romantic comedy). For some reason it just sounds so relaxing and fit for this weather doesn't it? haha But it's officially my spring break and I don't think I'll be doing too much "relaxing" since there are a lot of upcoming projects due when I get back. I will definitely post up photos of my completed projects in the near future so stay tuned...

Food for Fridays: Tantulum, LBC

3.18.2011

[dress: from years ago, coat/boots: f21, clutch: juicy couture]

Hidden in the LBC (Long Beach City for any out-of-staters) is this restaurant called Tantulum with a beautiful bay/port view. Sorry if it's hard to see with my crappy camera (yes I still need a new one) but maybe that's a good thing: you can be more amazed in person. So I won't say much about the decor.

I actually went here with my dear friend, Tram, back in December and forgot to blog about it. Or maybe I wanted to keep it a secret because I wanted to take another friend (who reads my blog daily) here as a surprise but someone else recently took her. Boo. The cat's out of the bag. Anyways, so now I can share it with you!

Happy Hour Menu:
1. Kobe burger - delicious! The meat in the burger was so goooood
2. Sweet potato fries - yummy! I like to order these at restaurants whenever I get the chance. More places should have this. So much better than regular fries hehehe
3. Whitefish - umm...a little bland for me. I like things salty. My friend said this other fish dish is better but, sadly, they took it off the menu.
4. House white wine - not too strong, not too sweet. The perfect combo for me.

Bon appetit!
