Belle of the Ball

3.30.2011

Over the weekend, my friend [Judith] and I volunteered for a charity event called Belle of the Ball. This event was brought together by: Girls Inc., Orange Coast College, Orangewood Children's Foundation, and Women Helping Women. It was to help promote body image and self esteem to minors and foster kids. There were over 300 girls attending and we all had so much fun spending time with them.

The day was filled with lots of activities: business of beauty seminar (presentation on how the media portrays beauty versus reality), drum circle (they got to play with real drums ~ it was an awakening session), dressing the part (selecting a dress, heels, accessories), and becoming the Belle of the Ball (makeup done by Marinello School of Beauty). On top of that, they received many free goodies from donated sponsors and there was a raffle for more free gifts!

I even got the opportunity to style and dress some of the girls, which was a blast for me. At the end of the day, the most joy was getting to know the girls and seeing them transition from this experience. Their smiles said it all and I was so happy to be a part of it. :)
