Halloween 2011 - Think Tink!

10.31.2011

[tinkerbell dress: self made, wings: halloween store, heels: c/o Bakers]

Every year Halloween gives us a chance to escape reality and dress up as anything we want! This year we had a Disney theme and my first choice was The Little Mermaid but since I was already a mermaid TWICE (as in two different costumes), I opted for being Tinkerbell (my next fav Disney character). I tried to make my Tinkerbell costume match her Disney outfit as close as possible and then, of course, I added some sparkle because that's just me. Halloween isn't the same without some glitz and glam you know? I wasn't going to wear any wings because they tend to get in the way when walking...but the bf got me some and it perfectly match my dress so I couldn't resist! After all, Tinkerbell isn't Tinkerbell without her wings.

What about you? Did you dress up for Halloween? If so, send me a link to your pictures as I'd love to check it out. :)

Food for Sundays: Rusty Pelican, Newport Beach

10.30.2011

Anyone craving brunch? If so, you've got to stop by and try Rusty Pelican in Newport Beach!

Their Brunch Specials come with champagne - that's right, I said comes with. How amazing is that?!?

And some assorted bread. My fav was the one with cinnamon.

Croissant benedict $13.59 - a twist to the usual eggs benedict. I like it on the regular English muffin better.

Firepot Barramundi $16.59 - I couldn't resist ordering the seabass with sweet & spicy flavorings. Delish!

French toast $12.29 - first time having French toast where the edges were crispy and it tasted so good! We all agreed that this was the winning dish. A must-try for anyone who likes French toast!

Sharing is caring!

It was our first time trying Rusty Pelican's Brunch Special and we all liked it. If you're a breakfast person, I recommend going here. Good food at a great price. I'll definitely be back here again.

Bon appetit!~!

SWOC 2011 - Day 8

10.27.2011

[coat: banana republic, tunic: closet find, heels: qupid]

What an amazing show! The Runway Glam Slam fashion show at Irvine Spectrum for Style Week OC really was a grand "glam slam." Models wore collections from Max Studio, Macy's, Kaitlyn, DownEast, Buckle, Forever 21, Lucky Brand, Francesca's, and Nordstrom.

It was packed when I got there but luckily I was able to squeeze in (I guess being petite has its advantages) and score some pics. The backdrop and music changed as they transitioned from one collection to the next. I really liked how there was a variety of looks. This helped keep us entertained and on our feet wondering what's next. I'm so used to being "behind-the-scenes" for fashion shows, that it was a nice change watching it from the audience perspective.

Food for Fridays: Manhattan, Orange

10.21.2011

Another October baby! Went to Manhattan Steak & Seafood in Orange for Jo's bday.

The place had an old soul feel to it.

Wild Chilean Seabass - light and easy to eat (I love eating seabass).

Red Seafood Pasta - clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, linguine...a little bit of everything!

Seared Scallops - okay. I thought it would've came with more, especially for $31!

Manhattan Prime Rib eye - very tender and flavorful. The winning dish of the night. My friend took this one pic and then started eating b/c she couldn't wait haha

In the bar area, there's a band and they sang Happy Birthday to her. Isn't that just too cute? Sorry for the blurry picture but everyone was moving. :/

Happy birthday jo jo!

With the birthday girl. :)

Group pics with my lovely girls to come!

Rock Climbing

10.19.2011

It seems like every week this month there's a birthday! At the beginning of the month, my friend, Heather, had a rock climbing bday party. It was going to be indoors and I didn't even though there was such a place just 30 minutes away from me. Rock City Climbing Center isn't crazy big but it was a good size place for a fun, family event. I've done some rock climbing before (nothing extreme) so I figured it'd be a piece of cake...and it was...until I came across the slanted walls. Omg I could not move for the life of me. I have terrible arm muscles. After doing a couple rounds of the straight rock climbing, I was getting a little tired. It looks easy but it's actually a great workout too. Having fun while working out is my kind of style.

Okay now I must mention the cake. First off, isn't it so cute?!? I just LOVED how it perfectly went with her rock climbing theme. Secondly, it was two layers of cake. That cake was huge! The top layer had chocolate and hazelnut, which reminded me of nutella. Mmmm. The bottom layer was vanilla with berries and cream. I am chocolate lover so I was already happy with my chocolate slice but I decided to try a piece of the vanilla cake. It was amazing! Very light and I can't believe I'm saying this but I liked it more than the chocolate cake. This doesn't normally happen so I am surprised myself. It's very rare to come across a cake that looks nice and tastes good, especially two flavors in this case! We all definitely left the place smiling after that dessert.

Food for Fridays: Pain du Monde, Newport Beach

10.14.2011

Before working on SWOC 2011's finale fashion show for Fashion Island last week (pics to come), Jud and I stopped by Pain du Monde for an early dinner.

Menu:
1. Seasonal salad - great salad combination of fruit & veggies. The champagne vinaigrette was light and went very well with everything. I don't eat strawberries so I gave them to Jud. Sharing is [always] caring!
2. Grilled steak & romaine - really good! The steak was tender and flavorful. The mushrooms were an added plus. *drool*
3. Apple tart - apparently when you order a dish it comes with a cookie and we didn't know that. We ordered our apple tart first and after our meal, we were too full to try the tart. So we gave it the family who was sitting near us. I'm pretty sure they enjoyed it. We did, however, have just enough room in our tummies left to try the cookies. I must say, those were some soft, baked cookies! I can definitely have more of those!

Bon appetit!

Dressing for Two

10.10.2011

[me - top: from Canada trip, skirt: closet find, sandals: volcom]
[her - top: gifted from kelly, skirt: foreign exchange, cardy: closet find, sandals: volcom]

As the oldest sister, apparently one of my additional "sister responsibilities" is finding clothes for them sometimes. One of my little sisters and I were going to Laguna Beach and she wanted to borrow something from me. Knowing how she is and what she likes/dislikes, I put together this outfit for her. Doesn't she look lovely?

P.S. Afterwards, we changed and played volleyball on the beach. I haven't played in so long, I forgot how much I liked it! Totally ended up with red marks all over my arms. Oh wells.

SWOC 2011 - Day 6

10.08.2011

On Wednesday after class, I quickly rushed over to Fashion Island to help out with the David Meister fashion show. Due to the rain (boo), the show got moved inside Bloomingdale's. This was my kind of fashion show because it was all evening wear and I have a weakness for dresses.

For this show I helped dress two models, Lauren G. and Jaclyn. Lucky for me they each only had two looks and were spaced out enough for me to switch from one model to the next. As a designer myself, I loved looking at the dresses and touching the fabric. Everything was like a piece of artwork and I was silently ooh-ing and ahh-ing to myself (so I didn't seem crazy).

David Meister's Fall 2011 collection definitely had a lot of glitz and sparkle, which are two things you can never go wrong with. And it was super awesome having Mr. David Meister there himself! I got to see him for a bit backstage (yes, he stood next to me for a couple minutes) and I knew I was in great presence. I wish I got to take a picture with him though but maybe next time. He also did a meet & greet and signed autographs. What an amazing designer huh? He's so nice! See you next time David!

P.S. Since I was super busy backstage I couldn't get a lot of pictures. Above are some sneak peeks of what goes on behind-the-scenes. I hope you'll enjoy!

P.P.P.S. It totally made my day getting a "tweet" from designer David Meister after the fashion show. I guess people really do read things on Twitter! Thanks David!! :D
