Food for Fridays: Alegria Cocina Latina, Long Beach

11.18.2011

One night Jud and I were going out to dinner. We didn't know where to go but we just felt like being spontaneous. Somehow we ended up in downtown Long Beach and we still didn't know where to eat. We walked down the main streets to weigh our options. After walking a couple blocks and back, we knew we should follow our instincts on our first choice, Alegria Cocina Latina.

This place had such great decor and ambiance. Totally loved all the hanging masks and there was even a live band playing salsa! (Later they had a DJ.)

Pomegranate Caipirinha Tradicional - amazing sweet, mixed drink! On the menu it doesn't have this flavor but just ask them & they'll make it. If you're ever see this drink on the menu, order it!

Hole Mole $7 - we've never had "mole" sauce and was told this was a popular appetizer so we tried it. OMG it was delicious and flavorful! I don't know what's in that sauce but you've got to try it. I am still craving it to this day!

Humitas Chilenas $9 - what is this you may ask? It's a homemade sweet corn tamale souffle. This dish was very good as well. The stuffing with the sweet corn made for a perfect combination.

Despertador $7 - aka tiramisu. Warning: all that powder on top is deadly. Seriously! Me & jud were both choking because it kind of clogged our throats so be careful. After wiping off the top powered layer, we got to enjoy the tiramisu better. Overall it was okay, nothing extraordinary.

Chocolate Cake Shot - I LOVE chocolate cake. I repeat: I LOVE chocolate cake! Jud knows that and she wanted me to try this because I've never heard or had it before. It doesn't look like chocolate cake but after you take the shot and bite the lemon, you suddenly take it. Weird, indescribable, and confusing. It was good but I still love eating the actual chocolate better. Hmm now I'm craving some.

I'm so glad we followed our instincts as this restaurant was definitely a winner. This was a great place for a casual, fun night out. We will sure be back soon!

Bon appetit!~!

Oh how I love being a girl! We can dress up and get all dolled up for no particular reason sometimes. These pictures are from a photo shoot I did a couple months ago. The purple dress I'm wearing is actually my very own creation!

Limo Ride to LA

11.15.2011

[top/skirt: f21, heels: c/o Bakers, wristlet: coach]

It's been a while since I've been in a limo ride...so it was sure a lot of fun riding in one with my gfs! I felt like it could have been our high school prom or something, except we were heading to a club. Has anyone been to Drai's in LA? It was most of our first time there and it is gorgeous outside! Reminded me of a mini XS from Vegas. Popping bottles and dancing until 3am. What's not to like right?

Happy birthday Krystie! Loved the pink & white theme - way to celebrate in style my dear!

OC Fashion Showcase Seminar

11.14.2011

[top/shorts: closet find, socks: volcom, heels: qupid, hat: bakers]

Jud and I went to the Orange County Fashion Showcase Seminar last month and we got to meet a lot of cool, new people! This was a great place to network and learn more about the fashion industry. We even got invited to go wine tasting afterwards! It was truly random but, being the adventurous people that we are, we like a little spontaneity and couldn't say no to that invitation!

*Special thanks to all the wonderful speakers - you were all so kind and informative!

Food for Fridays: Javier's

11.11.2011

First off, make a wish it's 11/11/11!

For today's Food for Fridays post, one of my jr high gfs (Alex) was visiting us so we all decided to try Javier's at Irvine Spectrum.

Cabo Azul - apparently this was a popular dish or something because we all ordered this haha and it was pretty good. The dish came with so much food (even the shrimp taco, pic shown above) so we all kind of shared.

It was also a special occasion and another reason to celebrate! Our dear Scarlet finally turned 27 (she's the baby in the group)! The waiters came out with flan and sang to the birthday girl. It was very cute and she was totally surprised. Got to love those moments!

Bon appetit!~!

ParaKate Concert

11.10.2011

Went on a double date to the ParaKate Concert at Yost Theater last Friday. In case you don't know (I didn't at first), ParaKate stands for Parachute + Kate Voegele. I was a little bummed I forgot to record the "99 Times" song as Kate was performing but at least I got to see it live.

It was also my first time hearing Parachute. One of the performers on the guitar (the one with the long hair) from Parachute kept making me laugh because he was so into it and his hair was swaying everywhere. Seriously. Everywhere! He looked crazy but it was still cute.

What about you? Do you like to go to concerts? I do! There is something about watching an artist perform live...maybe it's the big lights and crowded energy but it's always amazing! My favorite concert, by far, is still Miss Britney Spears. That woman can sure entertain!

Food for Monday: Santouka, Costa Mesa

11.07.2011

A cold day calls for some hot soup!

Spicy miso ramen with special pork & egg - so good! You can get regular pork but the "special pork" is a lot softer.

Inside the Mitsuwa shopping center is this amazing ramen place called Santouka. It's hard to read the name of place (I think it's in Japanese?) but it has a lot of black around it, if that helps. You'll know you're at the right place when you see a line of people waiting to order. Also, this place only takes cash so come prepared. We ordered 2 spicy miso ramen with special pork and 1 egg and the price came out to about $21.

Bon appetit!~!

CHECK IT OUT: Mitsuwa, 665 Paularino Ave., Costa Mesa, CA.

P.S. I know I'm late again for my Food for Fridays posts because it's clearly not Friday - it's Monday. Shame shame shame...sorry!

SWOC 2011 - Day 9

11.03.2011

[dress: f21, cardy: kohl's, heels: anne michelle]

Pics from the finale of Style Week OC at Fashion Island! Guess what? Me and Jud got to dress boys for the first time and we discovered that it was so much easier than dressing girls. My male model was James and Jud's male model was Timo, who were both handsome sweethearts! I also loved that we also got to work right next to each other for our first show together. Such a memorable "first time" experience. We definitely had a lot of fun!

Halloween 2011 - Just Vampires

11.01.2011

[corset/cardy: closet find, skirt: f21, heels: qupid]

Do you know how hard it is to find a couples costume for Halloween? Especially, one that fits? It's very hard so we gave up looking at the store (it was too last minute for me to make something). We figured being vampires should be easy: wear black and add some fangs. Done! Sounds easy right? Everything was...until we had to stick on the fangs. Omg it was so difficult! FYI don't waste your money on those. I had to take them off because it was so inconvenient to wear. We also kept getting teased as "Bella" and "Edward" from Twilight but that wasn't the intention. My response was, "Oh no, we're just vampires."
