Food for Fridays: Cliff House, SF

Continuing on with the San Fran trip...

Our second day there we took the Muni bus across town to the Cliff House restaurant. A friend recommended this place to me and the restaurant really was on top of a cliff, next to the waters. It had an amazing view of the sunset horizon. Quite romantic, I must say, having dinner with pretty views of the colors in the sky. I did have more pictures to share with you, but as I mentioned before, I had an unfortunately camera incident that deleted half of my trip pictures so no food pics. :( I'm still slightly bummed from it. Guess they'll remain as "mental pictures" for me. Or, the best solution, the bf and I can go back to SF and redo our trip with a better camera huh? haha that'd be too funny but no...we have a new list of other places we want to check out for next time. Surprisingly, I thought we could go to all the places we wanted to go in three days but that didn't happen. If anything, I look forward to our next trip there (whenever it may be) because there are so many things to see/try/do in San Francisco. I loved it there!

Menu:
1. Belgian Endive Salad (green apples, bleu cheese, pecans, walnut oil vinaigrette) - the bleu cheese here is really strong. The bf said it's because they use really good quality bleu cheese. He educates me on food since he's my chef. It's always nice to learn something new.
2. Braised Lamb Shank (Israeli couscous, dried apricots, currants, fig, cranberry, toasted almond, arugula) - very good. I used to not like lamb but recently became accustomed to the taste. This one was indeed flavorful.

San Fran 2011: Dinner Date

2.24.2011

[dress: fashion store, coat: f21, heels: anne michelle]

Here are a couple pictures of my outfit before our dinner date. Believe it or not I've actually had this lace dress for months. Somehow it just got lost with all my other clothes. But this was the perfect time and weather to wear it.

More details about the place tomorrow! :)

There's a first for everything...

It's been awhile since the bf and I have gone on a trip. Visiting San Francisco for the first time together was a lot of fun: walking around town, trying food places, and sight-seeing the city. I highly recommend going here (when the weather is sunny) because it is definitely something different.

A vacation is suppose to be when you step out of your daily norms and experience something new right? Well, this city has a little bit for everyone. It's a great romantic getaway.

If you happen to be some of the lucky few (like myself) who has today off, go out and enjoy it. Happy Monday everyone!

Food for Fridays: Cozy Cable Car Cafe, SF

2.18.2011

I've decided that since it's the weekend, everyone is probably getting ready for dinner dates or birthday parties or something else to celebrate. Which is why I wanted to share some food places on Fridays that, if you're curious, you can go taste for yourself. It's almost the weekend so go out, explore, and try something new! :)

For today's post, the Cozy Cable Car Cafe is a little restaurant in Union Square that my bf and I tried out in San Francisco (if you're local, you may have already eaten here).

Menu:
1. Cable Car Tuna Melt with sun-dried tomato, avocado & cheddar cheese on wheat bread - easy to eat and yummy. Not too heavy which is a plus.
2. Curry Crepe with chicken in homemade curry sauce - very interesting eating curry inside a crepe. Funky at first but I kind of like it. If you don't like "funky" then try the chicken pesto crepe (that was our second choice).
Reminder: the bf and I were up for "daring" food choices during this trip. We felt like being adventurous in a new city hehe

Happy Friday Everyone!

CHECK IT OUT: Cozy Cable Car Cafe, 519 Powell Street, San Francisco, CA 94108. Tel: (415) 982-3097

Pretty in Pink

2.17.2011

[dress: target, heels: gifted from bakers]

For Vday this year the bf and I decided to share the day. Going on a date with five couples sort of reminded me of prom with everyone dressed up.

The guys had a little surprise planned and took us girls on a boat ride in Long Beach. We each took turns being "captain" at driving the wheel. I'll be honest: I was pretty scared. I almost bumped into those floating things in the water haha Trust me, it's not that easy because you constantly have to move the wheel from side to side so you really need to pay attention.

This was a nice, fun Valentine's - definitely something different. Hope you guys had a great one as well!

Lace Unexpected

2.16.2011

[cardy: foreign exchange, lacey shorts: f21, heels: gifted from bakers]

I've been waiting for what seems like forever to wear these lacey shorts my friend gave me for xmas and finally had good weather to bring them out. I actually wore this outfit during my San Fran trip but due to an incident with my camera, the photos got deleted. :( So I re-took pictures of my outfit when I got back to OC. I really need a good, sturdy, reliable, working camera huh? Hopefully by the end of this week I'll get a new one. *crossing fingers*

Vinny, Come Out and Play

I don't know if you remember but a while back I was chosen as one of the winners for ShoEternity's faSHOEnista contest (click here, here, and here for past posts). It was the best way for me to end 2010 and I was [and still am] super ecstatic to have won. On top of the great achievement of the amazing faSHOEnista title, the five lucky winners get two free shoes. WOW huh? One of the shoes I chose was this beige Vinny heel. The neutral color goes with everything and makes all your outfits look so chic. They are uber cute in person so get 'em while you can!

You Love Me, You Love Me Not

chinatown

spinach salad

pizza rustica

rain drops martinis

chocolate banana cake + ice cream

[dress: foreign exchange, cardy: fashion store, belt: from canada trip, heels: gifted from bakers]

As a Valentine's Day gift, the bf took me on a trip to San Francisco for the weekend. It was such a sweet idea as we have never been there together before.

After we landed and checked into our hotel (from the SFO airport we took the BART then the Muni cable car to our hotel), we decided to check out Chinatown since it was only a couple blocks away. On the sidewalk there was a penny souvenir machine and I enjoy collecting them whenever I can (I have a good collection so far hehe). We ate at a dim sum place that was recommended by someone at one of the stores so we thought we'd give it a try. Negative. It wasn't that good, which is why I didn't want to share pics with you. The dim sum in SoCal is way better! I will blog about in the future for my out-of-state followers in case you ever want to try some when you're in town.

Later we went to the Grand Hyatt in Union Square to catch the gorgeous sunset from their Grandviews Lounge on the 36th top floor. Luckily it was one street down from us. I tried their rain drops martinis: purple rain, apple rain, & tropical rain. It comes with three 2 ounce martinis for you to sample, which I love because drinking (or eating) one flavor gets boring for me. My favorite was the apple rain - sip and take a bite of the apple together...delicious. The tropical rain was also very good. Reminded me almost of a pina colada.

After enjoying the sunset, our hotel manager recommended an Italian place close to us. Credo [meaning: I Believe] on Pine Street was just a couple blocks away so we were up for trying new things. We ordered the spinach salad & pizza rustica. The salad had goat cheese on it which I'm not too big of a fan but I did like the dried cranberries and pancetta. Anyone who knows me, knows that my favorite two pizza toppings are sausage and mushrooms. If your pizza has these, then I am going to try it. This pizza did have sausage and carmelized onions (another thing I can't say no to). The bf and I really liked how it had a crispy crust. He loves pizza so we've had our fair share and we can get kind of picky when it comes to this food. Overall, Credo was a good recommendation.

One of the things that I love about San Francisco is all the walking. It feels so much healthier to walk around and it's such a norm there. SoCal definitely needs to adopt something like this!

We ended the night by walking around Union Square in search for a good dessert place. Unfortunately our mission failed since most places were closed or their dessert menu just didn't seem to catch our eye. So we decided to go back to the Grand Hyatt and order the warm bittersweet chocolate banana cake with dulce de lece ice cream. I'm so glad we did because it was so so good! Another fun fact about me: I love chocolate cake and I love bananas. So together, it's my weakness.
