Sunshine Greenery

4.30.2012

Outfit Details: Volcom dress, unknown cardy/sunglasses, Bamboo boots, Charming Charlie/F21 accessories

Sunny bright lights in a field of grass. That's how I imagine hiking would be. Something I am aiming to do (at least once) this summer. Preferably one with not too much sun and with a waterfall at the end of the hike. Anyone know of a place in local OC?

I'm not much of a stay-outside-in-the-sun kind of person but, of course, I'll make exceptions. This past weekend it was such a nice day outside that my little sisters and I, along with some friends, went to Huntington Beach to play some volleyball and chill out in the sun. Let me tell you: I haven't played volleyball probably since high school but surprisingly we all did pretty well and had a couple good rallys going on. Now I'm left with horrid bruises (no exaggeration) on my forearm that it looks like someone beat me up - but only on my hands. No lie! I bruise like a peach (is that what they say?) so pardon my purple arms in some future posts. Don't worry I'm okay. Just can't carry so many things on my hands until they heal. Oh well, good thing I have the bf to help me with that!

Food for Fridays: Mr. Pickles, Huntington Beach

4.27.2012

ATTENTION! In case you haven't heard, there is a Mr. Pickles now in the OC. In fact, it's down the street from me (literally) in Huntington Beach.

Thanks to my lovely friend Melodi for introducing me to this amazing sandwich shop. She used to live in San Francisco and this was one of her top 3 sandwich places up there. So when she found one down the street, we just had to check it out. Since then we've been going here almost every week. Yup, we are that addicted to this place and I'm probably going to gain 5 pounds now!
Big Jake on the Dutch Crunch Roll

Pulled Pork on the Dutch Crunch Roll

House Combo on the Dutch Crunch Roll

The Mr. Pickle on Dutch Crunch Roll

Okay, are you starting to see a pattern? That Dutch crunch roll is such a delicious combo of crunchy and soft textures. Try it at least once! If you don't like crunchy bread, they have a great sweet roll too (the bf liked this one better cause he likes soft breads on sandwiches). And all the sandwiches were really good! My ultimate favorite though was the first one I tried: The Mr. Pickle; everything about it was perfection. The bf's fav was The Hot 'T' (not pictured but it had turkey, baja & cranberry sauce). Slowly, Melodi and I are sampling all the sandwiches. I've tried 6 so far so another 15+ to go? No problem!

Want to know what else is amazing (I know, can there be any more amazing news about this place)? They also give a free cookie with each sandwich! Talk about enjoying an awesome sandwich and ending it on a sweet note. This, my friends, is all you'll need.

Bon appettit!~!

Retail Therapy

Outfit Details: F21 crochet dress, A&F jean jacket, Wanted rugged boots, thrifted crochet crossbody bag

One day during work my coworker says, "Let's go shoe shopping for lunch! I want some retail therapy." Sure, why not? I won't object. That sounds like a perfect lunch to me!

So off we went to the local DSW and I found these awesome pair of rugged boots! Such a random sweet find. Now I can cross that off my wishlist because I've been looking for a good pair for a very long time now! Thirty minutes later, we left with 3 pairs of shoes and nothing but happy smiles on our faces. Retail therapy was a success!

I think it should be mandatory for all jobs to offer retail therapy lunches. Don't you agree?

Day to Night: Magenta Dress

4.24.2012

Outfit Details: Target dress, Volcom eyelet jacket (day look), Glaze floral heels (day look), self-made hand accessory (day look), Electric sunglasses (day look), unknown cardy (night look), Steve Madden lace-up heels (night look), Charming Charlie necklace (night look), Fendi glasses (night look)

One dress, two looks.

During the day I kept this look bright and neutral for work. Wore the Volcom eyelet jacket to give some texture and floral heels to add a print. At night, I tend to go for darker colors hence the dark gray cardy. Paired it with my nude lace-up Steve Madden heels and a statement necklace for a dinner night out with my girl friend.

When you're in a time crunch, this is one of the fastest ways to change your day look into a night look. First, change your jacket and shoes. Then pile on some blinging accessories. Now you're done and ready to head out the door!

Which look do you like: Day or Night?

Carrying Vietnam in My Heart and on My Shoulder

4.23.2012

Outfit Details: gifted dress from the bf, Jessica Simpson heels, FE cardy, CC necklace, Electric sunglasses, gifted bag from aunt in Vietnam

When my pops travelled to Vietnam, he brought me back this really cool bag from my dear aunt. On my mom's side of the family, they live in the city of Ben Tre where you have to take an hour long ferry ride in order to get there. Poor me being a motion sickness person, those ferry rides back and forth tortured me every time.

In the small city of Ben Tre, it's known as the "coconut city" because they are so many of them over there. Drinking coconut is great. But finding another way to reuse the products? Well that's just absolutely amazing! And the bag I'm wearing above happens to be made out of coconuts. Interesting huh? Yup, I had to do a double take too. Love learning something new every day!

P.S. The bf got me this dress a year ago and I totally forgot about it! By the time I wanted to wear it, it was too cold. However, the nice sunny weather last week gave me a sign to take this gorgeous thigh slit dress out of the closet and out to see the world!

P.P.S. Since it's been couped up for so long, I'll just pre-warn you that you may see more pics of this current-favorite-dress more on my blog. Just saying. ;)

Food for Fridays: Green Bliss Cafe, Fullerton

4.20.2012

The other week my little sis Kaf invited me to a new coffee shop opening at one of the work building she manages. So on a Sunday afternoon, we sisters got together for the private soft opening of The Green Bliss Cafe in downtown Fullerton. It's such a cute place with so many cool, organic, eco-friendly products inside! All their pastries are delivered fresh daily and they even hand brew their own coffee in a Japanese fashion! I tried the chai and thought it was super delicious! The whole time I thought it was chai tea and it turned out to be chai coffee - and I don't drink coffee! This chai drink almost converted me to be a coffee lover. Almost.

Guess what else? They also have vegan cupcakes! This was the one sweet treat we didn't try (we got too full) but when Kaf went to their Grand Opening a couple days later, she tried their vegan cupcakes and said it was one of the BEST she's ever had! OMG it made me wish I shoved a cupcake into my full stomach haha Oh wells. Lucky for me, this lovely little cafe is located where my little sister works so I'll just have to convince her to bring me some. ;)

***SPECIAL THANKS to Rita and the Green Bliss Cafe staff for this wonderful experience! If  you're ever in the Fullerton neighborhood, come check this place out! You won't regret it and it may change the way you think about coffee - and food!

Sending love,

P.P.S. Kaf also tried one of their sandwiches and she loved it! Sounds like this Mother Earth friendly place has the complete whole package: great food, service, AND products!

Meet Our Dog Truffles!

Outfit Details: F21 shirt, unknown vest/skirt, Charming Charlie necklace/clutch, Jessica Simpson heels

Hi Everyone! I'd like you to meet our dog Truffles! It's only been about 6 or 7 months but I miss those days when I could just hold her in one hand. Now she's too big for me to carry! My little sister told me to enjoy the puppy when they're small cause they grow up fast. I didn't know she meant like 2-3 weeks fast! Sighhh I would've taken more pics of her.

Anyways, don't be disguised by Truffle's cuteness - she's a crazy one! Ever since from Day 1 she's been a handful. We've tried putting up walls to block her from going into the living room and she would always figure out a way through. Guess that means she's smart and, undoubtedly, persistent (on the second day of having her I put her in the patio and blocked the doggie door with a big trash can and after 30-40 minutes of pounding her head against the trash can, she made it inside the house. Persistent right?). Oh yes, she's a lot tougher than she looks and from Day 2 I nicknamed her Troubles. I think this nickname suits her well. She has definitely lived up to it so far.

Dogs, what else can you do? They just grow on you and you can't help but to love their crazy personalities!

kimberly

Modern Day Hippie

4.19.2012

Outfit Details: unknown top, Wet Seal jeans, Glaze heels, Electric sunglasses

For some reason on this particular day I felt like wearing jeans. And if you know me, I'm more of a skirt/dress/leggings kind-of-girl. It's not that I don't have any jeans because I actually have a good collection. It's just that I feel more comfortable wearing loose, flowy clothing - you know, things that are easy to move in.

Is it just me or does this outfit remind you of a hippie? I think it's the floral heels with the suede fringe belt that makes me feel like I was channeling a modern day version of a hippie. Now I was born after the hippie generation so I don't really know how it was like but I picture rainbows floating in the sky with colorful flowers on the walls (aka That 70s Show. Has anyone else seen it too?) Hmm maybe I was a hippie...in my past life.

Sending love,

kimberly
