Turning 34 with a New Perspective

5.21.2018

What 34 feels like. Yup, I just celebrated my 34th birthday yesterday..

Do I have everything planned? No. Am I where I thought I would be by now? No. Can I look back and say that I've enjoyed my life? HECK YEAH. This year I'm focusing on good energy and surrounding myself with good vibes. To help with turning 34, I'm sharing 3 things I'm letting go and 4 things to practice more of this year. That's the great thing about birthdays right? It gives us the opportunity to have new perspective on life and here's mine below!

1st thing to let go :: negative people
Oh you know who they are. There are some people who just give off negative energy and, in order to change your life, you have to learn to let them go.

2nd thing to let go :: making mistakes
You know what? I'm not perfect, no one is. We all make mistakes and the best thing we can do for ourself is to learn from them. One quote that pops in my head about this is: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

3rd thing to let go :: expectations from others
They say to "treat others they way you want to be treated" and I have to admit that sometimes, for a long time, I would expect others to treat me the same as I would treat them. And, most of the time, that didn't happen and it would upset me. I've learned that we can't have the same expectations from others that we have on ourselves because we are not the same people.

1st thing to practice more of :: mindfulness
I know I briefly mentioned this in my Self-Care Tips post (here) but it's something I don't take lightly. With so many responsibilities that we have nowadays, we have to also learn to practice mindfulness. This helps to clear your mind and focus on what's happening in the now. I try to do this every morning when I wake up and it helps set a positive tone for the day.

2nd thing to practice more of :: spread more kindness
The world can be a scary place but if we all practice on sharing a little more kindness each day, it can be contagious. Random acts of kindness without expecting anything in return is something I want to do more of. Let's give more to help make our community - our world - a better place.

3rd thing to practice more of :: speak your truth
The most powerful thing we have is our mouth. Our words that we share can have an impact on others. So it's important to speak your truth with kindness and respect, always.

4th thing to practice more of :: living in the present moment
Ohhh this can be a tough one! Especially with social media. As much fun and great as social media is, I'm learning that it's healthy to take breaks and unplug from it all. It's a great way to get re-energized and connect with those current in your life. Plus it shows them how much you value your time together!

What is something you want to change for yourself this year?

Let's cut the negativity out and cheers to living your best happy life! You deserve it. Thanks for reading and sending you hugs!
