Disney's Lunar New Year 2017 Celebrations

2.04.2017

Happy Lunar New Year everyone!...

Last Saturday, January 28, 2017 was the start of Tet (in Vietnamese) and when we heard that Disneyland California Adventure Park was having a special celebration for this occasion, we could not resist going and put our annual passes to use. In fact, we went to Disney three times this week and here's a recap (mostly from my Snaps) of their current Lunar New Year 2017 festivities.

When Disneyland becomes your new backyard. Seriously though, we go almost every week!

[Foods to Try] During the Lunar New Year celebration, Disneyland California Adventure Park is offering cultural dishes from Korea, China, and Vietnam (see complete food list here). From Kimchi Bokkeumbap (Kimchi vegetable fried rice) to Xiao Long Bao (pork soup dumplings) to Banh Chung (sticky rice cake with pork), there are a variety of food, drinks, and sweets to choose from. We ended up ordering the Ca Chien Gion Ngon (whole crispy tilapia with chili-lime vinaigrette and steamed rice meal for two) at the Paradise Garden Grill while dining under hanging lights and listening to live cultural performances.

[Explore the Park] They have a lot of festive decor throughout the park to put you in the cultural mood. P.S. Matching here with my custom-made CreatedWithL0ve Mickey ears - thank you Jen!

[Things to Do] You also get the chance to write down a New Year's Wish and tie it to the wishing wall.

[Make Memories] We, of course, participated in this Asian tradition (and surprisingly it was our first time making a wish together!). #TKeverlasting

[Take Pictures] For a limited time, you can take photos with Mickey and Minnie (or other Disney characters) in traditional culture attire. Super, super cute and festive!
Warning: there can be quite a wait for this and they end early.

[Get Art] They also have Chinese calligraphers to write your name in Chinese as well as draw your zodiac signs. These make for great little keepsakes.
On the left is the pig (Tim) with a rat (me) hanging out; on the right it says "Tim (heart) Kim."

[Enjoy the Show] Right now until Sunday, 02/05th, the World of Color show has a special Lunar New Year performance right before it. So grab yourself some hot cocoa and make it a fun date night!

What Lunar New Year activity do you want to do?
