How to Create a Blog

5.04.2017

So you want to blog?...

I've been getting a lot of questions lately on "how to start a blog" and so I thought it'd be a great time to share some info! While I'm no expert, I have been blogging for years and feel like I've picked up some insider tips that'll hopefully help you out to understand how to create a blog in just a few quick and easy steps.

To help you out, I'm sharing 3 tips on how to start creating your very own blog! These are things to think about while you start your blogging path. Hope it helps!

[STEP 1] Pick a name. This is probably the hardest part and the most important! Your blog name is what people will look at to understand what your blog is all about. It defines who you are and what type of audience you're catering to. I chose the blog name According to Kimberly during that time when the song According to Her came out and it was so fun to jam to, it inspired my blog name.
TIP: Look into GoDaddy.com to see if your blog name, also known as a domain name, is available.

[STEP 2] Select a template. What does this mean? Basically, it's choosing who you want to host your blog and there are several ones out there. Blogger.com and WordPress.com are the 2 most popular ones that I know of and majority of them come with easy to customize templates (yay for beginners!). My blog uses Blogger (or blogspot.com) and it's pretty easy to navigate through. I haven't had any issues and been using it since Day 1! From what I've heard from other bloggers, WordPress and Blogger/Blogspot are pretty much the same but it just depends on your personal preference.
TIP: Check both of them out and see which one you like the best.

[STEP 3] Define your focus. When people first look at me (or my blog), they probably think I'm a fashion blogger. I'm not. I'm actually a life+style blogger and this year I'm focusing more on real life topics. Truth be told, I'm actually a pretty private person. Even though a part of my life is publicly exposed on social media, a good chunk of it is kept private. And that's my healthy balance. So take time to think about what you want your blog to focus on and let that inspire your blogging path.
TIP: Write down different ideas on what you like and want to share to help you pick your topics.

Well there you have it. Ready to start your blog now? Have fun crafting it and start sharing!
