ATK Hot Spots :: The Art of Bloom in Long Beach

9.27.2019

Looking for a family friendly activity? Well, here's a place you can check out...
Take some time off to enjoy a quality family outing! The Art of Bloom in Long Beach (inside the Edison Theatre) is a pop-up installation that incorporates flowers with technology and the connection we have with them both. The theme of this exhibit is Symbiosis of how humans interact with flowers through emotions, celebrations, and growth.

There are 2 different sections for The Art of Bloom's debut installation. They wanted to focus on connecting multiple senses to this experience: sight, sound, smell, and touch. When you first enter, there's the Petal Room filled with real flowers and falling petals. A pretty cool and fun multi-sensory experience! You may also notice a hint of floral scent too. For this main room, they use digital technology to capture your body's temperature to shine a light as you walk around under the hanging flowers. You know we definitely took a lot of photos here.

The second part of the exhibit is the Augmented Nature Room where you'll need to download The Art of Bloom app on your phone to see the artwork come to life. You'll see artwork moving, flowers blooming, and figures creating different shapes. Our dad enjoyed watching this on his phone and you can even take photos plus videos of it too (through the app).

Pre-warning: it is a small exhibit but it's something different to experience. We've been so busy with our schedules lately that this was the perfect outing for a family afternoon together. You can spend about 1-1.5 hours here depending how many pictures (and boomerangs haha) you take in the Petal Room. That, right there, is the main attraction. All in all, our papabear said he enjoyed it and that makes us happy to hear! Check it out now; it's only going on until this Sunday, September 29th!

What family outings do you like to do?

Another fun activity we like to do, especially during the summer, is renting a duffy boat in Newport Beach. You can bring food, snacks, and drinks on the boat and take turns being captain. A great way to enjoy the summer weather in Balboa - highly recommend it! Thanks for reading and sending you hugs!
