FASHION :: OC Fashion Week F/W 2014 - Sugar Rush

3.06.2014

Guess what's back? Back again? Yup, that's right! OC Fashion Week has returned with a week full of festivities. Monday was the Grand Opening Day of OC Fashion Week F/W 2014 and the return of Sugar Rush (HERE), also known as The Sweet Splendor of Style. My dear Amanda from Feast.Fashion.Faves (above) and I all gathered under the artsy roof of Seven Degrees in Laguna Beach alongside other fashionistas to check out the latest jewels, beauty, and styles to hit OC for Fall/Winter 2014...

Top 5 Fashion Faves: Met Gala 2013

5.07.2013

This year's theme for the Met Gala was punk fashion to match with the museum's new exhibit "Punk: From Chaos to Couture." As I was watching the live stream yesterday, it was quite interesting to see how celebrities attempted to go along with the "punk" theme. Now some of the looks weren't exactly "punk-ish" but many did step out of their normal element and created their own fun, punk version.

Ready? Here are my top 5 fashion faves from last night's Met Gala 2013 "punk" theme event:

1. Kate Bosworth wearing Balmain - if you saw my Twitter feed yesterday than you would've known that I fell in LOVE with Kate's pink embellished dress! As I said, it's very chic & so my style. Absolutely my favorite for the night!

Met Gala 2013: Cara Delevingne
 2. Cara Delevingne wearing Burberry - punk perfection in a classic plunging dress with studded details. You can't tell in this pic but she had an awesome side part braided 'do.

Met Gala 2013: Rooney Mara
3. Rooney Mara wearing a custom made Givenchy Haute Couture - loved the all-white ensemble and scalloped hem! So feminine with a slight hint of edge with the zipper trimmings.

4. Anne Hathaway wearing vintage 1992 Valentino - first off, she looks hot! Second, how amazing is her bleach blonde hair?! Love how she styled it for this punk event.

5. Jessica Alba wearing Tory Burch - okay it's not really punk-ish (which she admitted) but it is made of leather so does that count? That's some effort plus she's looks gorgeous so who cares if she goes by her own rules!

FASHION TRENDS FOR THE NIGHT:

Sarah Jessica Parker punk Met Gala
Smokey Eyes
Cutout Dresses

Embellished Mini's

Have to give it to Miss Sarah Jessica Parker though for going to the extreme with the punk theme wearing a Giles Deacon gown, Christian Louboutin tartan boots, AND a Philip Treacy mohawk headpiece! Seriously, who can top this? SJK took punk fashion and made it couture.

What did you think of this year's Met Gala fashion styles? Did you like it - yay or nay to celebrities doing the "punk" thing?

Top 5 Fashion Faves: Oscars 2013

2.24.2013

The Oscars. Where who's who of Hollywood movie makers wait all year long for this award show to see who wins what.

As for my Top 5 Fashion Faves, these fashionistas had that extra oomph that made them stand out just a little more than the rest of the crowd:

1. Zoe Saldana wearing Alexis Mabille - a couture twist with an subtle ombre hem (when does Zoe ever not look good?)

2. Stacey Keibler wearing Naeem Khan - the art deco on the back makes this piece very captivating (LOVE!)

3. Kerry Washington wearing Miu Miu - she's so adorable & this coral dress makes me feel like spring is just around the corner

4. Naomi Watts wearing Armani Prive - a little funky futuristic kind of but I'm oddly attracted to it

5. Jennifer Lawrence wearing Dior Haute Couture - the front is simple but don't you just love the long train? I do! (*congrats* to Jennifer for winning Best Leading Female for Silver Linings Playbook!)

FASHION TRENDS FOR THE NIGHT:

Strapless Gowns

Metallic Dresses

Did you watch the show? What was your favorite part of the Oscars? Mine was Ben Affleck's speech at the end for Best Movie award for Argo which was so heartfelt and touching - and definitely the best speech of the night! He's so humble and totally deserved it!

"Doesn't matter how you got knocked down in life. All that matters is how you get up." ~ Ben Affleck

Top 5 Fashion Faves: Grammy's 2013

2.11.2013

Ahhh the Grammy's - the biggest music award show all year long! What a night where singers of varying music genres all gather under one roof to celebrate each other. Hip hop, country, r&b? Yup, they're all there (imagine how many performers that is!). Pretty cool, if you ask me.

As for my top 5 fashion f aves for the Grammy's 2013, it was pretty easy to make my decision:

1. Rihanna wearing Azzedine Alaia - she was absolutely STUNNING in this gorgeous gown! (I probably told the bf that like 5+ times throughout the show too haha)

2. Taylor Swift wearing J. Mendel - I actually saw the back of this dress first, not knowing who it was, and fell in love with it right away.

3. Kelly Rowland wearing Georges Chakra Couture - very cool geometric cutout design

4. Rihanna (again) wearing Archive Luciano Soprani - really liked this sparkly look she wore while performing a tribute to Bob Marley

5. Carrie Underwood wearing Theia - the dress was simple (not my fav) but you have to give two thumbs up for how they got it to light up (the 3rd pic reminded me of a modern day version of Cinderella)

FASHION TRENDS FOR THE NIGHT:

Open back dresses

All black gowns

Surprisingly, I was expecting more fashion favorites at this award show but there weren't that many.

Let's face it though. It was Rihanna's night and she gets the award for Best Dressed, no doubt! Which one of her looks is your fave?

Well, since it was the Grammy's, did you have any fave musical performances? I really liked the Bob Marley tribute with Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Sting, and the Marley's sons - such an awesome collaboration.

Stay tuned for my next Top 5 Fashion Faves!

Until next time,

Top 5 Fashion Faves: SAG Awards 2013

1.28.2013

One of the most prestigious awards you can get as a professional performer has got to be a SAG award! Why you wonder? Because winners are not chosen by critics but instead from their peers! Meaning your fellow professional performers believed YOU did an outstanding job and you should be recognized for it.  That's pretty amazing if you ask me.

Anyways, moving on. Here are my top 5 fashion faves from the 2013 SAG Awards:

1. Nicole Kidman wearing Vivienne Westwood - love the detailing and high wavy slit (she always looks good!)

2. Jamie Alexander in Marc Bouwer - the front design of the dress is very eye-catching and deserves to be noticed

3. Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab - the simple lace cutouts brings a subtle twist to this classic silhouette

4. Guiliana Rancic in Max Azria Aelier- almost a symmetrical design but the odd one-shoulder piece gives it that extra oomph that made it stand out

5. Naomi Watts in Marchesa - this dress just seemed to fit her so perfectly

FASHION TRENDS FOR THE NIGHT:

Pops of Hot Pink

Shades of Navy Blue

Classic Black & White Combo

 via, viavia, via

Did you have any favorites?? I really liked the navy blue trend - that royal color seems to flatters all skin types (got to love that).

Stay tuned for my next Top 5 Fashion Faves!

Billabong Design for Humanity 2012

8.14.2012

Outfit Details: Jack by BB Dakota dress c/o BB Dakota, fringe bag c/o Lulu's, black wedge booties, accessories via personal jewelry collection

It only happens ONCE a year...and this year it was SOLD OUT. So if you weren't able to make it, don't worry. I have some pics in store for you!

What is Billabong Design for Humanity? A fashion, art, music block party that's what! Located none other than inside the cool lots of Paramount Studios, Los Angeles. Have you ever been? It's pretty HUGE!

This year Billabong teamed up with the Chipotle Cultivate Change Foundation, an organization dedicated to creating a more sustainable food supply, to help raise funds from their 6th Annual Design for Humanity event.

Us first-timers! Went to this super fab block party with my fellow fashion lover Judybug!

After getting our wristbands and coming inside, we spotted this cute little bar section with romantic hanging lights. (umm, can I get this for my backyard please?)

Listened to musicians playing in the NY Streets Backlot. Aren't their outfits reminiscent of old New York style? Love it.

We even got to make custom t-shirts here! Apparently we all have the same taste: GOOD TASTE! lol

Enjoyed live music throughout the night with special performances by: Imagine Dragons, Walk the Moon, The Lumineers, and The Joy Formidable. The energy of the crowd singing along to the music was pretty amazing.

Of course there HAD to be a Billabong fashion show! Couldn't miss out on that! There swim collection was filled with lots of neon colors and daring cutout designs. I'm going to have to find out where I can get my hands on some!

To my surprise, there was a Billabong Design for Humanity x Lookbook.nu Lounge!! (Find me on Lookbook.nu HERE) I was so excited to check it out and meet/reunite with Yuri, Annabelle of Viva Luxury, & Tiffany of Toulomee! Such lovely ladies! Xo

Oh what a night! Judybug and I had a BLAST at the 6th Annual Billabong Design for Humanity event! Who doesn't love fashion, food, music, and art right? So it was really fun being able to attend an event AND support a cause at the same time. That's what I call a win-win in my book! We can't wait to see what's in store for next year!
