New Year, New Hair

1.30.2013

The other week I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with Sherry and the timing couldn't have been more perfect because I was in major need of a new 'do. (please note above is the "after" picture)

On a sunny SoCal afternoon, I made my way to Gavert Atelier in Los Angeles for a scheduled hair appointment with the lovely Sherry Ratay.

Upon entrance I was warmly welcomed and offered complimentary drinks (water, tea, champagne). As I sat in the waiting area, I couldn't help but notice their wall filled with all sorts of hair supply goodies (something that I probably need more of, especially for my colored treated hair).

Within minutes I received a robe to change into and took this quick "before" picture to remember my final day with ombre hair (yup, goodbye ombre! You were good to me while it lasted).

The moment finally came when Sherry got to check out my hair (which I must shamefully admit that it was slightly dry due to the ombre style - another reason why it had to go). I was up for any hair color change and Sherry, who was so friendly, recommended taking the ombre colors out to blend the hair together for a more romantic look with low lights. Something subtle yet still noticably different.

Afterwards, the super sweet Mika Fowler did a blowout on my hair and voila! Beautiful hair created by beautiful people. I couldn't have been more happy with the results!

***Huge THANKS to Sherry Ratay, Mika Fowler, and Pivotal PR for an amazing hair coloring experience! Everything was top-notch superb service from the moment I walked in. I can't wait to come back again!***

Outfit Details: sheer blue top, Joe's Jeans jeggings, 888 cardy, Shoemint heels, NastyGal necklace, Papers & Peonies bracelets

[INTERVIEW] Sherry Ratay, Celebrity Hair Colorist

January's Featured Interview is with none other than celebrity hair colorist Sherry Ratay - an internationally acclaimed, award-winning color expert and salon owner. With her 20 years of expertise Sherry has been featured in Vogue, Modern Salon, American Salon and Behind the Chair along with other abroad publications sharing her passion for haircolor.

What makes Sherry stand out?
Sherry Ratay has made a name for herself out of her Salon - Salon Ratay in Orlando, Florida. She has colored the hair of Hollywood Starlets like Audrina Patridge, Lacey Chabert and many more which has lead up to a high demand on her expertise of coloring. Sherry colors the “Ratay Way” which is all about taking in all of the person’s qualities and enhancing them by adding the most important accessory one has - their hair.

Where is Sherry located?
Sherry currently resides in Central Florida where her luxurious salon, Salon Ratay, is located and was named #1 hair colorist by Orlando Magazine. As the Ratay brand develops Sherry also travels bicoastal for her LA clientele.

Sherry's best hair color advice?
When choosing the perfect shade for your hair…it is ALWAYS a must to first understand what would look best with your eye color, skin tone, and of course your existing natural hair texture and haircolor. Just because the TREND says it’s a trend DOES NOT mean that it is a perfect choice for you. Seek your Professional recommendation from your Haircolorist.

Sherry's hair color predictions for 2013?
We can all say that the ombre’ is still alive and happening but what I see happening is my version of the European Ombre’. Which is exactly this….deep dark chocolate shadow on the regrowth with the ends reflecting shades of soft terra cotta, or Raspberry Truffle shadow on the regrowth with the ends reflecting to shades of the Pacific sunset, or even with blondes…..tawny medium blonde on the regrowth with the ends softly taking on the shades like corn silk. Now that’s beautiful sexy haircolor…and I must say touchable!

How to stay up to date with Sherry?
Follow her on Facebook (Salon Ratay) / Twitter (@sherryratay) / Instagram (@sherryratay), of course!

Coming up next? My personal hair coloring experience with Sherry Ratay (including pics) will be up shortly so keep an eye out. ;)

Top 5 Fashion Faves: SAG Awards 2013

1.28.2013

One of the most prestigious awards you can get as a professional performer has got to be a SAG award! Why you wonder? Because winners are not chosen by critics but instead from their peers! Meaning your fellow professional performers believed YOU did an outstanding job and you should be recognized for it.  That's pretty amazing if you ask me.

Anyways, moving on. Here are my top 5 fashion faves from the 2013 SAG Awards:

1. Nicole Kidman wearing Vivienne Westwood - love the detailing and high wavy slit (she always looks good!)

2. Jamie Alexander in Marc Bouwer - the front design of the dress is very eye-catching and deserves to be noticed

3. Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab - the simple lace cutouts brings a subtle twist to this classic silhouette

4. Guiliana Rancic in Max Azria Aelier- almost a symmetrical design but the odd one-shoulder piece gives it that extra oomph that made it stand out

5. Naomi Watts in Marchesa - this dress just seemed to fit her so perfectly

FASHION TRENDS FOR THE NIGHT:

Pops of Hot Pink

Shades of Navy Blue

Classic Black & White Combo

 via, viavia, via

Did you have any favorites?? I really liked the navy blue trend - that royal color seems to flatters all skin types (got to love that).

Stay tuned for my next Top 5 Fashion Faves!

Sending love,
kimberly

Sheer Pleats + Stripes

1.23.2013

Outfit Details: Forever21 top/belt, Foreign Exchange skirt, H&M blazer, G by Guess heels, gifted Michael Kors bag from Jude, Papers & Peonies accessories, Fendi glasses

Yes these photos all look different so don't worry your eyes are not playing tricks on you. Was messing around with some different photo filters and voila! Got this batch. Isn't it funny how a filter can change the effect of picture? Well, that's how I ended up with this variety - because I couldn't decide on one (story of my life).

Wore this outfit the other weekend to a girlfriend's birthday dinner. Since it was at night and rather cold on this OC evening, I wanted to wear something loose (so I can eat) and long (to keep me warm). The sheer pleated skirt from Foreign Exchange was just the answer! From there I threw on my F21 striped top & H&M blazer because it matched my gray Guess heels and I really really wanted to wear them. (It's probably been a year since I last worn so they needed to be taken out to play.) Plus it was a bonus that it matched very nicely with my new Michael Kors snakeprint bag, a Christmas gift from my sweet Jude.

Enjoyed a delicious cannoli dessert shot alongside my arm swag.

Always a fun night with these lovely ladies. Happy birthday Nuggs! <3>

On a different note, I still need to update you on my New York trip. Those will be coming up soon so stay tuned! :)

Until next time,

My Instagram Life

1.21.2013

Another week of my random life adventures on Instagram (follow me: @kimberly_luu)!

With my sweet Jude (umm...apparently Jude is with an "e" at the end; all this time I've been writing Jud!)

Candy bar section at our girlfriend's baby shower (it had the cutest decorations & so much food)

Obsessed with my Tarte Cosmetics eye shadows from Jude! So perfect for travelling.

Love is...cooking a homemade dinner with the bf! He's usually the chef but this night, we cooked together <3>

Goodbye ombre. Got an amazing new hair color thanks to celebrity colorist Sherry Ratay!

DIY homemade lamb chops for dinner at the bf's parents casa (who are also talented chefs)

Working on a grad school project so took a test on antioxidant levels & I scored in the top blue percentile at 51,000! Super shocked (and still am)...

Cupcakes & macarons can be found at the mall. Yup, I said the mall! These snacks gave the right amount of sugar rush to continue shopping happily.

Complimentary birthday dessert for the bf! How sweet is that? Thumbs up Marriott Gaslamp!

Black & white dress for a night out in San Diego to celebrate!

Sometimes it's nice to slow down & enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. Enjoyed a nice brunch in SD before heading back to OC.

What a busy week it was but all full of good, special moments. To stay up to date on my daily mishaps, be sure to follow me on Instagram. It's a beautiful Monday so hope you enjoy it!

Until next time,

Mink Pink x Urban Outfitters

1.18.2013

Outfit Details: F21 sheer top/magenta skirt, 888 cardy, spiked boots, Papers & Peonies accessories

I realized there are a crazy amount of fashion event pics that I have been wanting to share with you. So in between work/grad school/internship/fashion events, I will slowly but surely update it all on the blog (thanks for being patience!). ;)

Back in October, I attended the Mink Pink x Urban Outfitters collaboration event (okay, it was more like a party) at LA's Space 15 Twenty hosted by the fab Gillian Zinser (she's so sweet & LOVED her on CW's 90210 tv show)!

cake pops, chocolate drizzled pretzels & more at the sweet section

with awesome fashion bloggers Stephanie from Honey & Silk (how amaze is her metallic jacket?!?), Sasha from LA Inspiration, & Deniz from Le Fashion Monster

random artist doing a live painting (pretty cool!)

with the lovely Kiara of Tobruck Ave

Got a tattoo! Asked for Tupac & she gave me Snoop Dogg. Good thing it was only temporary haha

Party favors that you can wear are seriously the BEST party favors to get! Thanks so much Mink Pink!! :)

Us blogger girls doing what we do best: being silly ;) Totally loved the photobooth pictures at this event - such a blast with these ladies!

Okay it's Friday guys. Are you ready for the weekend?!? Hope so and have a good one!

Peplum + Lace

1.16.2013

Outfit Details: lace blouse, bow peplum skirt, Michael Kors bag (Xmas gift from Jud), mint Jewelmint ring, Shoemint "Carol" heels

This past weekend I went to a girlfriend's baby shower and it was absolutely amazing! The decorations were oh-so-cute with tons of different types of food (beef stew, spicy papaya salad, pasta, fried rice, nachos - just to name a few) and an awesome candy bar (where you could've found me). On top of that, she had so many "baby" games going on that I didn't even get to play it all! It seriously felt like I was at a carnival. Nonstop goodness, nonstop fun.

And since it was a baby shower, I felt my inner Gossip Girl coming out and went for a sophisticated look. I've been wanting to wear this lace blouse with the bow peplum skirt for a while now (since Thanksgiving, actually) but never had the "right" occasion to wear it (or I just wasn't feeling it at that time and ended up wearing something else instead). So I was super happy to finally wear this outfit at the perfect occassion! Strapped on my Shoemint leopard/zebra heels (one of my current favorite items) with my snakeprint Michael Kors bag (Xmas gift thanks to my sweet jud) and I was in total GG style! Yup, Serena and Blair would have definitely approved this Upper East Side outfit. ;)

What about you? How do you make your fashion outfit decisions? By occasion or mood? I'm guilty of both!

Until next time,
