Something strange is going on with how Blogger.com is posting my text but hopefully it goes away...

This has been one crazy, nonstop weekend for me but I am beyond estatic for many big changes coming. I will post up more details later when I have another free break. Hope you're having a great Sunday fun day! :)

Sawdust Art Festival 2011

DIY earrings

totally LOVE this painting!

[dress: closet find, glasses: fendi, crossbody: coach, heels: jessica simpson]

Practically located in my backyard is the Sawdust Art Festival. Okay, maybe not that close but still within 30 minutes which isn't so bad. One random day, Jud and I went to check it out. We've heard about it before but never went inside. It kind of reminded me of the Strawberry Festival in that there were many booths everywhere but these had more creative work with lots of fun sayings. What's nice is that most of the art was done by the artist themselves, who also happened to be at the booths. The above painting really caught my eye - the one with the woman's hair flowing. Something about it just drew me in and I could not leave the festival without it. The artist, Michael Phillips, is truly a funny guy and it was so nice to meet him. I still don't know where I'm hanging that drawing up yet but it's going somewhere in my room.

You know what else is cool about this place? Depending on the day, they have random DIY arts & crafts activities going on. Jud and I happen to make the DIY earrings class and we went a tad crazy and made FIVE! It was a lot of fun making them and felt like, for that moment, we were little kids in art school or something because there were so many around us...plus a couple adults. But that is what's amazing about arts and crafts. It isn't limited to just children because anyone can be creative, even you!

Side note: this celebration of the arts is only open during the summer and winter. Any locals who appreciate and love art should definitely stop by. Have fun!

Pleated Silk

[top: closet find, skirt: jessica mcclintock, heels: qupid]

A belated outfit post but this is something I wore last month. I've actually worn it another time a couple months before that but forgot to take pictures (it was my "ballerina" look). In fact, this skirt is actually one of my favorite purchases this season because the details on the silk is so beautiful. It's hard to see but the silky skirt has a floral print all over it. Pictures don't do it justice. And the pleats at the hip yolk line? LOVE it. What also made me really like this skirt even more is that I didn't have to hem it! haha I know it may sound silly but it's very challenging to find a full-length skirt that fits. After that I knew I had to have it. ;)

Food for Saturday: Pee Wee's, HB

Hmm...I see I am having a little trouble keeping up with my usual "Food for Fridays" post on Fridays. Things have just gotten extremely busy lately that I've barely had time to blog. Thank goodness I have a little moment of free time right now so I am going to take advantage of it!

Hot dogs and hamburgers seem to go hand-in-hand for summer doesn't it? At Pee Wee's in Huntington Beach, that's what they specialize in! The bf found this place near my casa so we went to give it a try.

Menu:
1. Hawaiian dog (on sweet hawaiian bread with mango relish & sweet and spicy mustard) - the whole thing sounds good huh? But, sadly, it didn't have that "WOW" factor we were looking for. We knew we should've tried the apple dog...or was it chicken? Can't remember.
2. The Santa Fe green chile cheese burger - better than the hot dog and not spicy at all.
3. Sweet potato tater tots - I know this is just a side item but this was actually my favorite from the meal so I feel it's worth mentioning. Never had them before so it was an interesting -good- change to the normal sweet potato fries [which they also have].

This was our first time here so we took a chance with what we ordered. It's a hit or miss but that's what fun about trying new places. You never know what you're going to expect. If you're a hot dog and hamburger foodie, then maybe you'll like the variety here. As for me, I'll stick to the basics.

Bon appetit!~!

PlantLove

I am all for organic, natural products and this one is definitely at the top of my list! PlantLove by Cargo Cosmetics is a 100% natural makeup line with organic ingredients and Ecocert certified. This means that PlantLove has met the strict standards in creating eco-friendly products, packaging, and process. The 100% natural products do not contain any parabens, synthetic fragrances or dyes, petro-chemicals, or phthalates - all of which can be hazardous for your skin over time. PlantLove is so environmentally friendly that even their packaging is made out of corn! Talk about being green huh?

Last week a PlantLove lipstick was given to me as a gift and I've fallen in love with it! Lipsticks usually wear off throughout the day but I have come to realize that this is more of a lip stain lasting for many hours. And the colors may seem dark but when you put it on, it's actually a bit lighter so don't be intimidated to explore your options. I haven't tried anything else but since it's such a "green" makeup line, I am going to test the other products. If you know of any other great natural makeup products out there, please let me know! I'm always on the lookout for an amazing mineral pressed powder. Thanks!

Food for Monday SPECIAL: How To Make Bananas Foster

7.25.2011

Okay I am a couple days late for my usual Food for Fridays post, so I decided to do something special this time: a "How To Make" post for bananas foster!

The other day I was craving this dessert and the good ole' boyfriend of mine said he could quickly make it in a couple minutes. "Seriously?" I doubted...and so he did. I am not a chef so whenever he whips something up in such a short amount of time, it always fascinates me. Lucky for me I have my own personal chef...and lucky for him, I can be his food-tester. It's a hard job but someone has to do it right? ;)

HOW TO MAKE bananas foster:
You'll need bananas, rum, and your choice of ice cream (we got all of these ingredients from Staters)

Step 1: Cut bananas into quarters (in half and then half of that)

Step 2: Melt some butter with brown sugar and a dash of salt

Step 3: Add bananas to the mixture (this can be done after the rum is added if you like the bananas more raw)

Step 4: Pour in a shot of rum or more if you prefer (just be careful because the flame comes fast so stand back)

Step 5: Scoop out good spoonfuls of ice cream (I like a lot) into a bowl, add the bananas and drizzle sauce over it

Voila and there you have it! Pretty simple huh? I liked it so much we actually had it twice within three days! Also, you have to eat it right away because the ice cream melts FAST!

This is a great dessert to make to surprise your special someone or to treat yourself out. Have fun cooking and bon appetit!~!

Volcom Swim 2012 Fashion Show

7.20.2011

[top: closet find, shorts: gift from the bf, cardy: kohl's]

Last Thursday, Volcom partnered up with ELLE Magazine to bring together an incredible fashion show for Volcom's Swim 2012 collection. I had the ultimate pleasure to help backstage with the CBT crew and then watch the fashion show as a guest with my dear Jud. For me, it's always exciting to see how everyone preps for the fashion show "behind the scenes" and then watching it live on stage. Especially when the music starts, the lights come on, and then the models start strutting the clothes, I appreciate all the hard work put into the event more.

Interestingly though, the look for the Volcom Swim 2012 fashion show felt very retro. It was definitely something different from the usual glamorous fashion shows I've been to. However, different can be a good thing as the atmosphere was very relaxed and everyone was enjoying the moment. Even the models had fun wearing the short, bold wigs as they striked a pose while snapping pictures onto their cell phones. Funny side note: all the blondes ended up with black wigs and all the brunettes had blonde wigs. What a contrast huh?!?

Being backstage, I couldn't help but to notice the garments. Before the show started I already knew which bathing suits I wanted to get. My favorite is the 8th pic down (red, white, & blue) - I have my eyes on you and will be sporting you next year! That seems so far away doesn't it? Luckily, this amazing collection will be available starting November. Only a couple months away...I guess I can wait. ;)

Many special thanks to:
*SDP and CBT for organizing the models and making them look fabulous!
*POSSO (meaning: "I can") for providing the music and keeping the energy alive
*Bertenzen for sponsoring drinks for the event. Jud and I had tried the pear flavor and we likey.
